New Siding Helps Homeowners Save Money

The COVID-19 pandemic has encouraged families to spend more time at their homes, prompting homeowners to tackle more home remodeling projects. More specifically, homeowners are gravitating towards projects that offer the most value. “One such remodeling project involves installing new vinyl siding,” said Christopher Wittmann, NARI Certified Remodeler and Senior Sales Representative with Callen. “Beyond enhancing a home’s aesthetic appeal, installing new vinyl siding improves a home’s energy efficiency, requires inexpensive minimal maintenance, eliminates repair costs, and increases a home’s resale value.”

New vinyl siding, paired with rigid foam insulation, can lower a home’s energy bills as it significantly improves a home’s energy efficiency. Prior to installing the siding, a layer of rigid-foam insulation is applied to the exterior walls of a home to maximize the walls’ insulation performance. “The combination of insulation and vinyl siding effectively removes all drafts and protects the home from the elements, such as extreme temperatures, high winds, rain, snow, and more,” said Christopher. “As a result, a home’s indoor air temperature will remain more comfortable and consistent.”

Siding can also be custom ordered with the foam already attached to the backside of the vinyl to further reduce energy bills. Custom-ordered insulated vinyl siding ensures that the dimensions of the siding materials match the unique measurements of a home. This minimizes seams and spaces, making it nearly impossible for moisture and wind to make their way inside. “Custom-ordered siding coupled with rigid-foam insulation, equals one highly energy efficient home,” Christopher said.

Another benefit of vinyl siding is minimal maintenance. For example, vinyl siding never requires painting, which would otherwise be a significant undertaking involving a considerable amount of time, effort, and cost. “Other than occasionally cleaning vinyl siding, maintenance is virtually non-existent,” said Christopher.

Along with minor maintenance, you won’t have to concern yourself with troublesome repairs either when opting for vinyl siding. “Thanks to its makeup, vinyl siding does not soak up moisture, so it’s impervious to mold, mildew, and rot,” Christopher said. “Moreover, with its durability, it’s resistant to chips, cracks, and warping. The outstanding life expectancy of vinyl siding helps avoid this inconvenient and unnecessary expense, saving money in the long run.”viny

If looking to sell a home in the next few years, new siding will considerably boost the home’s resale value. More specifically, according to the National Association of Realtors’ 2019 Remodeling Impact Report, homeowners can expect a 63% cost recovery when they sell the home. “You can expect new siding to promote curb appeal as well as yield a sizeable ROI,” Christopher said.

“Not only does new siding give a home a facelift, it also saves homeowners money, which is especially pivotal during these uncertain times,” said Christopher. “From lower energy bills to increased resale value, installing new vinyl siding is an all-around wise, cost-effective investment for your home.”
