Configuring Your Countertops

Countertops are just one of the many elements to choose from when designing your dream kitchen, bathroom, or other interior living space. While most homeowners focus only on the design of the countertops, another important aspect to consider is the physical arrangement of the slabs. This becomes important when dealing with materials with heavy veining, as the overall look can be significantly transformed.

There are three main ways to go about configuration: Vein Matching, Diamond Matching, and Book Matching.

Vein Matching

This process involves arranging slabs, so the natural veins form a continuous pattern. Vein matching is often used to coordinate backsplash veins, seams, and waterfall kitchen islands to create visually striking patterns that showcase the natural stone’s beauty.

Diamond Matching

In this technique, four slabs are arranged to form a diamond shape. The vein matching occurs around a center point and flares outwards. Diamond matching is best suited for larger spaces, such as walls.

Book Matching

Like opening a book, this technique involves placing two slabs so that the seams mirror each other on either side of the centerline. This configuration is usually done in a large space where the full effect can be appreciated, such as shower walls, kitchen islands, and accent walls. These areas typically provide the most impressive visual effect.

There are many factors to consider the right countertop configuration for your space, but with the help of our Sales • Design Consultants there’s no room for guessing!
