Luxury Closet Trends

by Marie vos Owens

There are many choices for dressing up your closet at a variety of price points.  Systems can be simple and sleek with everything behind closed doors, to elegant and ornate with a mixture of open and closed shelving to display your finery.

Here are some of the options available for creating the closet of your dreams.

  • Drawers to replace the traditional bedroom dresser to keep all dressing needs in one place.
  • Shelving and cabinets in a wide range of wood grains, finishes, hardware, and accessories.
  • Many door and drawer profiles, perfect edge matches, crown and base moldings.
  • Units that can stretch from ceiling to floor with base trim and crown moldings or off-floor suspended shelving.
  • Pull-down closet rods for easy access to items you want to store higher up.  Hanging rods in multiple heights.  Adjustable rods and shelves to accommodate changing needs.
  • Valet poles.
  • Pull-out hooks for ties and belt racks.
  • Jewelry drawers with organizational dividers and velvet liners.
  • Shoe shelves that are tilted with a stop on front (so they don’t fall) and easier viewing
  • Islands with high end countertop surfaces, such as granite.
  • Fold-down ironing boards.
  • Recessed lighting to emphasize the clothes rather than cast them in shadows.

When designing a custom closet, whether it’s a reach-in or a walk in, it’s important to take inventory of all the items that are in your closet space so you will know what you will need for open or closed shelving and rod height for folded over items, shirts, blazers, and long dresses.  We will design a custom solution for you based on your inventory and customize for any specific clothing storage need you may have.

Here are some general guidelines on what you can expect a custom closet to include:

Spectacular: System consists of wood grain, crown molding. Does not include lighting or flooring.
Moderate: White or off-white melamine.  Shelving with a few drawers, minimal doors, and no crown.
Economy: Also melamine, basically shelving and hanging rods.
