“If you’re considering a bathroom remodel and are interested in achieving a luxuriously modern design, then you may want to think about incorporating a few 2019 bathroom technology trends into the space,” said Heather Brannan, Sales Design Consultant with Callen. “While technology may not be your first priority when discussing a bathroom remodel, it’s becoming more essential with time, as smart technology has expanded its reach to bathroom mirrors, showers, faucets and toilets.”
Heather and Callen explore these bathroom technology trends to help homeowners create the look and feel of a contemporary bathroom, while simultaneously complimenting their own unique style.
“Thanks to smart technology, bathroom mirrors have transformed into responsive, multipurpose devices, as mirrors can now function as a touchscreen or television,” said Heather. “As you might expect, they connect to the internet via Wi-Fi and generally feature Bluetooth.”
Smart showers are comprised of a valve that’s installed along with a digital controller mounted to one of the shower walls. Similar to smart mirrors, they offer the ability to begin, end, or temporarily pause the shower with easy-to-use voice activation. Moreover, you can control the temperature and length of the shower among other specific presets. “So not only do smart showers provide convenient customization, they can also be programmed in a manner that provides savings on water consumption,” Heather said.
Faucets have embraced smart technology by incorporating touchless as well as digital options. “A motion sensor will turn your faucet on and off for a more sanitary approach to handwashing, and digital features allow you to set temperature controls providing ease and comfort to your overall experience” Heather said. “Smart faucets drastically reduce the amount of water consumption in the household, increasing your homes energy efficiency.”
Toilets have also embraced technology, as standard smart toilets are known for touchless automatic flushing. More advanced toilets are equipped with motion sensors to open and close the lid. Other sophisticated smart features include self-cleaning systems, state-of-the-art lighting options, heated seats, and built-in speakers. On top of all the comfort amenities, smart toilets use less water than regular toilets. “They can even sense the amount of water required for every flush and adjust accordingly, making them highly energy-efficient,” she said.
