How To Love the Home You Live In

With Valentine’s Day falling tomorrow, this blog focuses on the love and relationship you share…with your home. We often nit-pick what we dislike, instead of making a change into what we love. Perhaps, loving your home needs to be more than just decorating, decluttering, or cleaning.

The following are a few reasons that could be potentially holding you back from loving your home:

  • Certain areas of your home feel cramped and dark.
    • Your home may feel small because of the structural layout. For example, most traditional homes have a formal dining room separated from the kitchen. Instead, consider knocking down the dividing wall to create a more open floor plan. This will provide a better footprint and brighten the space. Speaking of brightening, installing a window allows for ample lighting. A bay window is a great example, which also incorporates a spot to have a window seat for a cozy reading nook or extra seating.
  • Your home always feels cluttered.
    • How much storage space is accessible to you? Clutter clean-up can easily be resolved by incorporating custom cabinetry that maximizes the space. This could include cabinetry in the kitchen, bathroom, family room, and/or the bedroom. Maybe you have a large whirlpool tub that gets used once a year and takes up a generous portion of the primary bathroom – replace it with a wall of cabinets for more storage and to free up space.
  • Various blank walls.
    • Many homeowners often have long lengths of walls they don’t want to or don’t know how to decorate. Instead, consider installing a large casement window or even a patio door to create a new view looking out. If a window or patio door isn’t an option, consider open shelving. Instead of closed cabinets, open shelving can display items and look more decorative. On the plus side, they are also a more affordable option.
