Depending on the size and shape of your kitchen there are many lighting options to consider.
Under Cabinet: Helping to bring task lighting down towards the countertops, this lighting makes prep work easier and even makes for a great night light! “Under cabinet lighting should run through the entire kitchen where countertops are underneath for a cohesive look,” said Paulette.
Interior Cabinet: LED tape lighting in kitchen cabinets with glass doors is a great way to highlight pieces that are housed inside, such as special glassware. “Glass front cabinets make a nice addition to breaking up the wood of the cabinetry, giving it an overall softer look,” she said.
Puck: Highlighting the task at hand and quickly transforming the brightness in the area, puck lighting is commonly found above the kitchen sink, where dishwashing takes place. If possible, add in a furniture piece, like a floating shelf above the sink, to add lighting underneath.
Under Island: Composing an aesthetically pleasing look, lighting under the island countertop isn’t necessarily made for tasks, but rather is a unique decorative feature. However, it can also be used as a night light if they are near other rooms in the house. Recessed: Made to illuminate the room with a simplistic approach, if there are existing recessed lighting in adjoining rooms, it is important to have all the trims the same for a consistent look.
Pendant: Designed to pull the entire space together, pendant lights offer elegance and beauty, most times shining over the island or dining table. This creates the main draw to everyone’s eye that walks into the space. “Pendant lighting is the cherry on top,” Paulette said.
Ceiling Fan: Many ceiling fans feature lighting, which can be a great addition for entertaining or task lighting. “When choosing a ceiling fan, which does not have to be the focal point of space, find a modern piece that fits with the overall space design,” said Paulette.
