Impactful Bathroom Remodeling Amenities

“Although there are a myriad of components to consider during bathroom remodeling, there are four key projects that provide some of the most impactful results,” said Jeff Billstrom, Sales Design Consultant with Callen, Inc. in Muskego. This list includes windows and ventilation, tile, cabinetry, and flooring. “When combined, these elements enhance the room’s aesthetics and functionality,” Jeff said.

Does your bathroom feature a window? If so, consider yourself lucky as homes with interior bathrooms are unable to experience this pleasure. Bathroom windows are beneficial as they fill the space with an ample amount of inviting sunlight and combined with a bath fan, provide proper ventilation. “Combined, these two items can help reduce mold and mildew issues found in most bathrooms,” he said.

Windows do present privacy concerns. In order to address this issue, window options such as tinted or frosted window(s), are strongly encouraged as they provide homeowners and their families with the desired privacy, without having to compromise on natural light.  “A new window with high efficiency glass and proper insulation can also improve the bathroom’s energy efficiency as they help maintain a comfortable indoor temperature,” said Jeff.

A bathroom’s shower and bath area are main focal points. Therefore, the tile selected is vital in terms of the space’s overall aesthetics as it will help set the tone for the rest of the room. “You can never go wrong with neutral colors, as they are nearly always in style,” he said. “Moreover, we are seeing an increase in demand for ceramic tiles, marble stone tiles, geometric shaped tiles, and tile that sports matte finishes.”

Bathroom cabinetry is another central aspect of bathroom remodeling, as not only does the style and finish chosen impact the bathroom’s design, it also serves a functional purpose. “It’s important to ensure the vanity, drawers, and cabinets selected will provide sufficient storage, allowing for the maximization of space,” Jeff said. There are an array of choices when it comes to bathroom cabinetry, but trending options include open shelving, quartz vanity countertops, wood bathroom vanities, floating vanities, minimalist style vanities, and cabinets featuring industrial elements.

One of the most popular luxury bathroom features is heated flooring. Gone are the days where you must strategically dodge the cold tile in order to navigate the bathroom. Instead, radiant floor heating allows you to experience comforting warmth. “Moreover, the technology of heated floors is perfectly concealed underneath the flooring, so it does not interfere with other bathroom elements,” he said. “It’s also completely silent and is ideally suited for allergy sufferers as it does not spread dust particles. Heated flooring is compatible with an array of materials, including tile, vinyl, wood, and concrete.”

When remodeling the bathroom, consider the collective style and design of the various elements chosen as well as their functionally. “With careful thought, you can select window options that provide necessary privacy in addition to ample light, shower and bath tiles to help set the tone of the space, bathroom cabinetry offering convenient storage, and heated flooring as a luxurious element that benefits allergy sufferers and cold-footed people alike,” Jeff said.
