arch windows

It’s Time to Round Out Your Home

There’s no doubt replacement windows enhance curb appeal, as well as add value to the home. While they have been around for centuries, a window trend that seems to be popping up more often in the exterior world are arch windows, which provide a main focal point for the home, both on the inside and outside.

Stationary fixed windows with glass glazed directly into the frame, arch windows are available in a variety of custom shapes and designs, allowing consumers to choose to replicate a home’s original windows or add new architectural interest.

Arch windows typically serve a couple purposes. The first is to bring in a new view and more natural light. The second, a rather unique element that not many homeowners may realize right away, is that the windows create a balance from the outside of the home with the straight-line domination from the doors and the roof.

Able to be used wherever a window is needed, arch windows can be combined with other windows, or even a door, to add more character to a home. They also happen to be the perfect solution to make a home’s appearance seem taller.

The following are a few easy ways to incorporate an arch in a home:

Round off the Entryway – When there isn’t room for sidelites, an alternative is adding an arched window on top of the door to put emphasis on the height.

Crown the Patio Doors – Similarly, patio doors work in the same sense, extending the height and allowing more light with a half-circle across the top.

Wall of Windows – Let the light in by creating a row of arched windows as close to the ceiling and the floor. This will create a look of “opening up” the room. There are a variety of options depending on wall size, including adding a half arch over a picture window or over a double hung.
