4 Kitchen Issues That Can Be Solved With a Remodel

As the kitchen is often the most-used room in a house, it’s important for it to be both functional and user-friendly. However, unless you design and build your own home, chances are the kitchen in the home you end up buying isn’t going to be exactly what you want. Fortunately, a good remodeling company and design team can help you address these kitchen issues and create, if not your dream kitchen, at least one that’s welcoming, comfortable, and functional. Here, we cover four of the most common kitchen design problems and what can be done to remedy them.

Lack of Storage

This is probably the top complaint of homeowners looking to revamp their kitchen. When there’s not enough storage space in your kitchen, it will quickly become cluttered, which will make it harder to keep things clean and organized. Even if your kitchen is somewhat small, with the right cabinets in the right configuration, you can maximize the space that you do have. In addition, there are many clever storage options that can provide more storage, such as pullout corner organizers, hidden drawers, and pullout spice racks.

Bad Layout & Poor Flow

In some kitchens, the design and layout make it clear that not much thought was put into the planning process. Bad lighting, an awkwardly positioned island or peninsula, and poorly placed cabinets and appliances can make trying to work in the kitchen a nightmare. While some Sales Design Consultant adhere to the traditional kitchen triangle concept — in which the stove, refrigerator, and sink form a close triangle — others say that defining separate areas for prepping, cooking, and washing is the way to go.

When helping you plan your new layout, a good designer will ask questions about things such as your habits and kitchen requirements, lifestyle, preferred cooking style, and the number of people in the house.

Poor Ventilation

Excess moisture in the air in your home can cause a lot of problems. In the kitchen, a lack of ventilation can lead to issues with stains, smoke and a hot, humid work environment. If your kitchen is poorly ventilated, Callen can help during kitchen remodeling by improving your exhaust fan and/or putting a new hood in place that provides better coverage over the range area.

Not Enough Counter Space

There’s nothing more frustrating than running out of space to work when you’re simultaneously trying to prep and cook. In addition, having a sufficient amount of counter space next to or across from the stove or cooktop on which to set things is essential for safety if you’re going to be transporting hot food around the kitchen. Many homeowners also like having extra counter space for entertaining or just a good-sized island around which the family can gather.
