A New Year means thoughts of a home renovation for many homeowners, especially because the New Year signals new home remodeling trends. “For example, colorfully diverse kitchens, environmental responsibility, home offices, textures, and curves will be prevalent in 2022,” said Jennifer Earhart, a Sales Design Consultant with Callen, Inc.
Another home remodeling trend that is expected to continue to gain traction is the concept of environmental responsibility. “An increasing number of homeowners and remodeling companies alike are committed to the preservation of our environment,” said Jennifer. “It’s important to be aware of the types of appliances and materials that are incorporated into our homes and the impact they have on the world we live in. Not only does this benefit the environment, but it also gives homeowners the opportunity to save money and reduce energy consumption. This is accomplished by opting for energy efficient appliances and lighting, sustainable materials, and Smart HVAC controls.”
With significant numbers of employees still working from home, more remote workers find themselves in need of a designated space that aids them in getting their work done. “It’s been proven that having a dedicated, organized, and functional space to work in substantially increases your productivity levels,” Jennifer said. “Homeowners often choose to create a multifunctional space, such as the new office space could also serve as a spare bedroom or yoga studio.”
The use of varying textures in the home is expected to take center stage in the New Year in an effort to create a more tactile environment. “Faux finishing is a budget-friendly option to consider that allows you to incorporate more textures into your home by choosing less expensive materials that mimic the look and feel of their more expensive counterparts,” said Jennifer. Moreover, faux finishing has been perfected to a point that it can be nearly impossible to distinguish faux material from its genuine equivalent.”
Marble, exotic woods, brick, and carved moldings are popular materials that homeowners tend to replicate. In addition, paint and wallpaper can be textural as well as fabrics. “For instance, cream bouclé was extremely popular in 2021, which explains why soft and fuzzy fabrics that help create a warmer, more inviting space will continue to reign in 2022,” Jennifer said. “Whether you’re including raw materials and paneling into your modern home, natural wood into a farmhouse, or soft fabrics and furniture into your Colonial home, adding texture will augment depth and dimension of the space.
Another trend for 2022 is that harsh angles are out, and soft curves are in. From arched windows and doors to barrel-vaulted ceilings, furniture with curves, and curved cabinets, curves add an unexpected twist to a home’s design scheme. Moreover, the use of curves helps offset the modern design concept of straight lines that has become more commonplace in recent years,” said Jennifer. “Using curves in home design not only makes a bold statement, but it also adds character to a home.
“Exploring current home remodeling trends is an effective way to fuel your inspiration when transforming your home,” Jennifer said. “Be sure to keep these styles in mind as you take on your next home remodeling project.”
