As the weather is becoming more bearable and the snow is melting away, it will soon be time for your annual “spring cleaning” around the house, including window maintenance. Although Infinity from Marvin Replacement Windows are virtually maintenance-free, it is important to perform a few annual checks to keep them on track to last a lifetime.
Here are a few things to add to your to-do list this spring, when it comes to your windows and patio doors:
- Inspect weatherstripping – ensuring that air or water is kept from passing through, if weatherstripping is damaged it can lead to mildew growth. If you see there is physical damage to the weatherstripping or notice a draft, it may no longer be effective.
- View exterior caulking – like weatherstripping, caulking seals gaps. It is important to use good quality caulk if any of the old caulk needs to be trimmed and resealed. If not done correctly, reoccurring gaps may form.
- Check screws – look over all exposed screws and tighten them if they appear loose.
- Inspect hardware – examine all hardware to make sure operation is smooth for locks, opening mechanisms, etc. A dry lubricant can be used to keep them fully operable.
Completing these tasks will help keep your windows and patio doors in the best condition possible. So, don’t put off window maintenance or skip over it when running through your checklist this spring.
