Window Installation Methods

Many times, clients aren’t aware of the two window installation methods we offer, full-frame and insert. The method chosen for your project is determined by one of our Sales • Design Consultants during your initial in-home consultation, or possibly a secondary appointment. It is important to have your windows’ condition assessed to choose the best replacement option.

When the Sales • Design Consultant notices signs of moisture issues, water damage, rot, or structural concerns, a full-frame replacement is an appropriate solution. A full-frame replacement consists of removing the entire window down to the studs, along with interior and exterior trims, allowing the new window to be installed in the opening. This method can be applied when opting for a new window style or when creating a larger opening for expanded views. For example, instead of a hard-to-reach double-hung window, replace it with an easy-to-open awning window.

An insert replacement, which we infrequently recommend for our clients, is most efficient if the existing window frames are still in good condition and you want to preserve the interior and exterior time. The only things that need to be replaced are the existing sash and hardware. The new window unit is inserted into the old frame, which is then anchored, insulated, and sealed. This solution doesn’t affect any existing trim, interior walls, or exterior siding, as it installs directly into the existing window frame. This is typically a faster installation process since the trim isn’t disturbed.
