This summer has been a mixture of sun, rain, heat, and humidity, a little bit of everything. In other words, a typical Wisconsin summer.
When I think of this part of the year, like many of you, I think the end of summer is approaching. But it really isn’t. Just because the State Fair is over (I hope you made it out and saw Callen in the Expo Center) and kids are going back to school, doesn’t mean it’s over. Remember, September 21, is the official end of summer.
I titled this blog the “Dog Days of Summer” with the thought of most owners of dogs, cats, birds, and even kids using their laundry room as a buffer between mother nature, and the coziness of the home’s living areas. The laundry room, or mudroom, is a room that was mostly thought of as place to not only do laundry, but also a place to plop shoes, use the laundry tub or sinks for cleaning, and a place to keep cell phones and keys. Many pet owners bathe their pets in the laundry room. Why use a nice bathtub when the laundry room tub is available?
But, can’t it be a nice looking and functional room? It sure can!
If your laundry is in the basement, maybe consider a remodeling project and place the laundry room on the home’s main floor. Callen Sales Design Consultant can do magic with their designs and make it work.
In addition to the place for the washer and dryer, these spaces now include lockers or cubbies for the kids’ school supplies, backpacks, jackets, and more. This space may also include a solid surface or granite countertop for folding laundry or a staging area.
For the laundry room, be sure there’s a window for natural light. When it comes to flooring, use of luxury vinyl tile or luxury vinyl plank can give the appearance of hardwood, but it can handle water spills and messy pets.
So, think of the laundry room in the same way as remodeling a kitchen or bath and go for it. Make it appealing, a room to enjoy doing laundry, ironing, crafts, and washing both pets and/or small children. It is also a room many guests walk through as they enter your home and you don’t want them tripping over scattered shoes and other debris.
Remember winter is right around the corner and boots, mittens, and hats will be coming out again. Call Callen to get started on renovating your laundry room space.
