As I write this blog, the NARI Milwaukee Spring Home ImprovementShow just finished. Callen, who has played a significant role in NARI –the National Association of the Remodeling Industry – for many years, was anexhibitor at and a supporter of the show.
NARI promotes the industry as a whole, puts on a couple of shows during the year, a tour of remodeled homes, and in general serves as a resource for consumers. This got me to thinking about hiring a qualified, trusted contractor to do your home improvement projects. On my weekly remodeling radio show, we suggest using a NARI member, but I take it one step further. Use a NARI contractor that you feel comfortable with. One that you believe in your gut you can welcome into your home and trust, not just their work, but their mere presence.
Let's face it, any medium to large scale project will have workers in and out of your home on a daily basis for a few weeks to several months. Consider this past summer, when Callen's awesome entry way project on my home was completed. The rough carpentry guys took out a wall and took it all away in a dumpster. The Sales Design Consultant, who was the initial person we met with, is on site throughout the project to check on progress. There is an inspector from your village or town to examine and inspect the project before the next phase can start. There are electricians, plumbers (if needed), finish carpenters, painters, drywallers, and finally clean up. Then my favorite part - a final meeting to make sure every square inch is to your liking.
The point is many people are in and out of your home. A good contractor will communicate when, who, and what is happening day to day. So get your estimates, meet with a few different contractors to compare, and talk to them and get a feel for their personalities and make sure you get a good vibe.
I have trusted Callen for over 25 years for interior and exterior remodeling projects and I encourage you to do the same. Callen is a leader in the Milwaukee-area remodeling community. Callen can put the WOW in your project, just like they did to my entry way project and other parts of my home. Call or visit Callen today and see what you think.
