With the beginning of each new year, you’ll find predictions about new (or returning) design trends that are expected to take off in various home design categories. Today, we will be talking about three reemerging bathroom trends that design experts anticipate seeing in 2019.
- Wood vanities are coming back. White has been the go-to choice for bathroom vanities in recent years, along with statement pieces in bold, bright colors chosen by brave homeowners looking for something a little different. This year, however, natural wood vanities are making a comeback in bathroom trends. The focus seems to be on reclaimed and light-colored woods rather than darker stains. These lighter finishes really do a great job bringing warmth to what is often an all-white room, as well as providing texture and unique patterns of knots and whorls that add visual interest.
- Bathtubs are recovering lost footing. While spacious walk-in showers have quickly gained in popularity over the last several years, many homeowners are once again thinking of the benefits of having a place to soak their cares away. There are still those who are foregoing a bathtub in the master bath altogether in favor of a larger shower, but a 2018 bathroom trends report shows that 80 percent of those investing in bathroom remodeling are incorporating a bathtub upgrade.
- Chrome has come down in the world. The shiny, mirror-like finish of chrome bathroom fixtures was once all the rage, but has slowly been decreasing in popularity. While there are still plenty of people who like chrome, it seems that matte finishes are much more on trend, as evidenced by matte nickel having overtaken shiny chrome as the finish of choice. In addition to their attractive appearance, matte finishes also do a better job of hiding fingerprints and smudges than shiny surfaces. Other matte options include matte chrome and oil-rubbed bronze.
