My wife and I recently attended the annual Wine and Harvest Festival in historic downtown Cedarburg. One day was glorious, sunny, and warm. The next was cold and rainy. Typical fall in Wisconsin.
Fall has just begun, but it serves as a reminder of what’s around the corner. Long-time Wisconsin residents know winters can be long, cold, and seemingly never-ending. But recently, some mild winters reminded me that nothing is as inconsistent as the weather in Wisconsin. What’s the old saying? If you don’t like the weather, wait 10 minutes.
There is no denying winter will approach quickly. Before you get too upset, remember if you prepare for winter, just like anything in life, it’s not only tolerable, but maybe you can embrace and enjoy it.
Is your house ready for the cold? Windows and doors play a huge role in the comfort and efficiency of your home. It’s not just the aesthetics – do your windows function properly? Does your patio door open and close cleanly? If not, maybe it’s time to explore new windows and doors.
Our old rotting wood windows didn’t look good or function well. We met with the experts from Callen and started by prioritizing the ones that needed attention the most. The first was our patio door, a French Door style with foam shoved in the gaps, and finished with the garage windows. We selected Infinity from Marvin fiberglass replacement windows and patio doors, and Callen’s skilled installers did the rest. Once completed, we had an entire house full of new windows. We could not be happier.
This was followed by a new front door system with sidelights. I cannot begin to express the feeling of being warm in winter and cool in summer. In addition, something I never thought of happened. The house was much quieter, as outside noises were diminished in a very noticeable way.
There’s much to be said about curb appeal, but efficiency, lower energy bills, and the satisfaction of having “peace of mind” knowing these are the last windows I need to worry about in this house.
We love our house, our castle, the biggest investment for most of us Much like your car or your own body, your home will slowly deteriorate if not properly maintained, so now is the time to act. I am looking forward to a cozy winter, fires, and Christmas carols (really, I am!).
