In a recent blog, we talked about interior renovation projects other than bathroom and kitchen remodeling that can improve your home, with a focus on the mudroom. This week, we’ll go over a few additional areas of home improvement, including home offices and various uses for cabinetry.
Home Offices
Home offices are almost a necessity now, whether you work at home or not. We can help you turn a bedroom or den into an organized space by using built-in cabinetry for storage, shelves for books, and counters for office supplies. When things are organized instead of being haphazardly thrown together, it’s much easier to focus on the task at hand.
Cabinetry
Callen offers three different cabinetry lines that can be used anywhere storage is needed.
- Our stock cabinets are of good quality, but are limited in terms of door style, finish, and wood species. This is a good, budget-friendly choice that comes with options such as sliding shelves, lazy Susans, and functional features such as trash container pull-outs.
- Our mid-level line is semi-custom, so there are more door styles, finishes, and species from which to choose. Door styles range from traditional to contemporary and ornate to arts-and-crafts style. With semi-custom cabinetry, you have the opportunity to change from standard sizing to exact sizing to gain as much storage space as possible. The line also offers many internal accessories that make organization a breeze.
- Custom cabinetry is handcrafted and, like semi-custom, is built to exact sizing specifications. This is an option if you desire an exotic wood species or unique door style.
Various Uses for Cabinetry
The nice thing about the cabinetry lines we offer is you don’t have to have the same “look” throughout. For example, you could use cherry, maple, alder, or oak for your finish and use a tinted varnish as a secondary finish. This is quite common in kitchens where the island may be finished differently than the wall-hung cabinets. We can also do specialty finishes like distressed, rustic, or cottage style.
The family room presents opportunities for improvement with cabinetry and fireplace upgrades. Enhancements such as bookshelves, new mantles or hearths, or media storage can improve the room’s form and function. Conversely, dated shelving can be removed to create a cleaner, fresher look. A fireplace conversion from wood-burning to gas is another option. Just think about the convenience of having instant, realistic-looking flames at the flip of a switch!
Media centers can really clutter a room with the various electrical components and hookups. One option to hide these unsightly cords and cables is to open the wall and create a raceway behind the TV so all the cords and cables are out of sight. Again, cabinetry is a great option for containing these components and enclosing them when they’re not in use.
